					<description><![CDATA[Good article, I reached the exact conclusion when I had my solar panels in 2016 and even in 2021 the price of batteries haven&#039;t come down enough to make much difference.
To corroborrate this I also used a simple calculation based on a 4kw system (3.75?) and a bit of common sense, giving the batteries the benefit of the doubt and selcting best case scenario.
Given that most electricity is used in the evening,  I looked and my consumption (excluding solar generation) I estimated I would only get on average, about 2-3kw benefit a day, in winter not enough was generated and in summer the max I can get is the 4kw stored for the evening, benefits of load smoothing during the day are more than cancelled by days of insufficient (zero) sun in winter.

3 x 20p x 365 = £219.00 p.a on a £5k installtion give a 20+ year payback
