Thanks for the comment. Most people around here are wearing masks in shops too. What worries me is the number of people who can't wear masks for one reason or another who have been scared back into isolation by this measure.

We are lucky where we live. All the shops have reminders about wearing masks and people seem to be complying. I also don't think they will make much different to the spread of the virus but hopefully I'm wrong.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I am glad compulsory masks haven't been such an issue where you live. Maybe I was just unlucky, but the incident mentioned in my post was quite upsetting. I did feel very sorry for the woman's daughter (about eight, I'm guessing), who was clearly distressed. I would like to see supermarkets put up signs reminding customers that some people can't wear masks for medical or psychological reasons. I have seen this on the transport system, so there seems no good reason why they can't do this in shops also.

Thanks, John. I don't really know how it works myself but I'll look into it. Maybe it will work better now I have approved a comment from you?

What a comprehensive round up! I feel quite lucky to live where I do, masks don't seem to have made things as hostile as you have experienced. With people being fairly sensible and I'm seeing less arguments than when it was just about social distancing. The unease when people got too close seemed to be a bigger issue. I am too enjoying a little more normality, having been to the pub (sitting outside only though, as I'm not too ready for prolonged inside-ness yet) and our clay pigeon shooting ground has been open for a while now. So it's been great to be able to get back to that.
