Thanks, Rhian. Yes, I agree. Many years ago I purchased a local dating agency franchise. I made a bit of money from it but not as much as I hoped, and it also generated more hassle than expected – from clients complaining about their dates to a strange Scottish guy who said he wanted a date with me (he wasn’t deterred when I told him I wasn’t gay). In the end I decided it wasn’t right for me, but I don’t doubt there are other franchises I could have made a success of.

Thanks, Erica. Yes, you don’t need a huge sum to get started. And even with the more expensive ones, loan finance is often available to help with the cost. The key really is to find a franchise that matches your interests, knowledge and skill-set. You need to be enthusiastic and excited about whatever business you are going to start.
