Thanks, Harry. My set-up is similar to yours, except I have an electric cooker rather than gas.

Indeed, there are many good reasons not to go down the heat pump route. Yet another is that grants are only available for the original installation. If/when this gives up the ghost, you will have to pay the full cost of getting a replacement, which could easily run to five figures.

I’ve never thought it wise to put all eggs in one basket.
My main source of energy is gas, 1/4 the cost of electricity. Apart from CH, the cooker is gas and there is also a gas fire in the lounge.
As for heat pumps, no way would I entertain one as in addition to your comments, they are ugly and noisy and finding someone to service one could prove tricky.
